8th Grade Plays

You and your children are cordially invited to watch the 8th grade plays performed on Thursday, June 1st at the Cubberley Community Theater (4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303).

The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry performed in Chinese @ 6:30 p.m.
Synopsis: The Little Prince may have returned to his own tiny planet to tend his rose and look after his sheep, but for a short enchanted time, he returns to us and comes alive on stage. What is the most exciting is now he speaks Mandarin! He wants to remind us "one only sees with the heart, and what is essential is invisible to the eye."

Le roi nu, by Evgueni Schwartz, performed in French @ 7:30 p.m.
This play was written in U.S.S.R  in 1934, and is a fierce critic of Stalin autocratic rule. It is a great comedy inspired by three Andersen tales: The Swineherd, the Princess and the Pea, and the Emperor's New Clothes. Henry, a Swineherd, is in love with a princess, Henriette. Her dad disapproves of this mutual love and plans to have Henriette marry a king who is quite dumb and very tyrannical. Henry and his friend Christian are going to do everything in their power to stop this wedding from taking place. Will they succeed in their endeavor?

This is a unique opportunity for your children to watch a play performed in French and Chinese. We are looking forward to seeing you!
