FRENCH "MATERNELLE"
EARLY YEARS PROGRAM

Nursery - Kindergarten

In the Maternelle nursery program, our focus is transitioning your child into an academic environment. Similar to our Chinese nursery program, children in our Maternelle nursery class will focus on learning to speak and listen in French. Our teachers will also care for their social and emotional needs. It is our goal that by the end of the year, students will feel comfortable in a Chinese speaking environment, will be able to understand basic classroom rules in Chinese, and respond to simple questions.

"Day in the Life" Schedules

At the pre-kindergarten level, more emphasis is placed on helping the children develop social and emotional skills. These skills will help them adapt to their school environment. Children are encouraged to use a variety of skills to process, explore, and express thoughts and concepts. Students completing our pre-kindergarten program should be ready to meet the challenges of a kindergarten immersion program.

In kindergarten, we offer a well-developed bilingual immersion program that prepares children for the primary grades within a nurturing environment. Students will develop their language skills in both languages and acquire sufficient vocabulary and the necessary study skills to thrive in elementary school. Our curriculum focuses on promoting creativity, problem solving and social interaction through strong language, reading, writing and math programs.

The development of listening and speaking skills in both French and English is facilitated through auditory and visual discrimination. Reading readiness activities are designed to teach the concepts of space such as left-right and top-bottom orientation, chronology, and auditory perception. Writing readiness activities enable the students to develop control in their hand movements and learn how to design shapes used in writing, particularly the cursive style emphasized in the French curriculum.
