MATHEMATICS

Chinese/English Elementary School

The math curriculum is primarily taught in English, with concepts reinforced in Chinese.
Since its inception, the Chinese/English Program has utilized the Everyday Mathematics Program as the primary resource of the mathematics curriculum. The Everyday Mathematics series follows the guidelines set forth by the National Council for the Teachers of Mathematics.
The program was chosen as the primary resource because of its spiraling curriculum, allowing students to build upon and expand their knowledge of mathematical skills and concepts at each grade level.
It also utilizes manipulatives to teach students about abstract concepts and focuses on problem solving (the "language" of math) in daily situations. Teachers supplement this curriculum with activities for students to master math fundamentals.
