computer science and educational technology

At INTL, the use of technology is aligned with our school mission to support our student-centered and inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning. Technology is fully embedded across curricula, and teachers develop intentional and well-planned learning environments, engaging students to construct knowledge for themselves and for others.
INTL’s 1:1 device initiative combined with a rigorous progression of technology skills, provides students with age-appropriate digital tools. At each grade level, the range of available applications leads to deeper learning experiences tailored to the students’ learning needs. Students are empowered to demonstrate their ability to research, think critically, make decision, collaborate, communicate, innovate, and solve problems. In 1st to 5th Grade, students use iPads that remain at school, but are used seamlessly by each individual student in everyday classroom life. The 1:1 laptop program in Upper School allows students to take their technology skills to a greater depth in conjunction with their academic learning.
 
To educate our students about the complexity of today’s digital life, INTL has a curriculum-based digital citizenship program starting in 1st grade, promoting responsible, ethical, and safe use of technology and the Internet. Integrity and respect of others are integrated in all aspects of our students’ learning experiences.

In addition, INTL has a fully-developed computer science curriculum for our students from 1st through 5th Grades. In Upper School, computer-science is integrated into the Design course where students are engaged in analyzing and reflecting upon the design and complexity of objects and systems. Students understand themselves as designers of their own world.
 
Students can hone their information and digital literacy in the Bean-O’Sullivan Media Hub on our Cohn Campus, a dedicated space providing printed and digital resources to conduct research, a video production studio, 3D printers and laser technology for fabrication, as well as areas to work collaboratively.
The ubiquity of technology available to the faculty in personal laptops and interactive projectors in classrooms allows them to integrate whiteboard and multimedia resources in their everyday teaching.
